Recently, CRT has been discussed everywhere – in the media, in school board meetings, and in classrooms – and has generated many questions. Indeed, as documented in the UCLA Law CRT Forward’s new report, since September 2020 through May 2023, more than 200 local, state, and federal government entities across the United States have introduced nearly 700 anti-CRT bills, resolutions, executive orders, opinion letters, statements, and other measures.
Through this virtual program, you will learn how CRT seeks to understand why inequality persists in our society which has explicitly condemned racism and has repeatedly adopted laws and policies intended to eliminate it. Drawing on research in history, social sciences, and the humanities, CRT demonstrates how laws and policies can reproduce racial inequality—even when they are adopted without explicit racial bias. CRT is thus an important tool to support our nation’s ongoing efforts to achieve a robust multiracial and equitable democracy.
