Harvard's Global Day of Service welcomes the Class of 2025 to a vibrant culture that promotes civic engagement across the greater Harvard community!  All class years (including alums and current students) are welcome to sign up as volunteers!

For this year's virtual project the HCSD will assist the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights with responding to individuals negatively impacted by the new Credit Earning Percentages. On May 1st, California's prison authority CDCR announced new credit-earning percentages that will reduce the remaining amount of time certain incarcerated individuals would serve.

Volunteers will be answering letters from individuals who were negatively impacted by CDCR's recalculation of new release dates - thousands saw time added onto their remaining sentence even though the new credits were supposed to take time off from their sentence. The Ella Baker Center has partnered with the Prison Law Office and is in conversations with CDCR to resolve these issues. They want to give individuals the most up-to-date information and describe how they can appeal these decisions if they're still negatively impacted.

The Ella Baker Center (a nonprofit based in Oakland, CA) will also give volunteers a short presentation of the work done at the Center, including the Prison Mail Program.
