Cancer Comfort Volunteer Event at Stone Brewing
We made blankets for cancer patients at Stone Brewing!
On Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, You Are Not Alone (YANA) Cancer Comfort teamed up with the Harvard Club of San Diego and HandsOn San Diego for an evening at Stone Brewing in Liberty Station. Volunteers had the entire outdoor area, with food and drinks being served, to assemble blankets while chatting with one another. All of the blankets were pre-cut so that volunteers simply had to tie knots around the perimeter for the finished product. The fleece blankets were piled up at the end showing significant activity across the two hour timespan with 80 blankets produced. The blankets were washed by YANA Cancer Comfort after the event and placed in care packages to be delivered to cancer treatment centers for patients to use during chemotherapy sessions and at home as a source of comfort. A special thanks goes out to the two co-founders of this non-profit and the HandsOn San Diego team who went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and appreciated.
