Ahoy, we tidied and toured the Midway
Community Service event with extra benefits! (Meeting a movie star)
Harvard alumni gathered on Saturday, May 16th to assist with clean-up activities aboard the USS Midway prior to opening to the public for the day. We experienced a change of plans with the rainy weather preventing us from conducting an FOD walkdown on the deck. Instead, we cleaned railings and various areas throughout the tour route.
Once every checklist was complete, we had a docent lead tour that went well beyond the initial hour that was allotted. One unique encounter during the tour was our introduction to a cast member of Top Gun. Viper gave us some behind the scenes insight and then we continued on the tour. With varying schedules for the day, some volunteers stayed on the Midway longer to enjoy more of the overall experience. We had the opportunity to interact with many of the regular volunteers and tourists as well. A great time was had by all.
