UCSD Cardiovascular Center Tour a Big Success

July 9th joint event with Stanford attracts 65 attendees from both clubs.

What goes on at a state-of-the-art cardiovascular center?  What types of diagnosis and treatment are possible and what are the newly emerging technologies?

Sixty-five members from the local Harvard and Stanford clubs joined together to learn how UCSD's stellar academic and clinical teams combine all heart and vascular-related programs under one roof at the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center.

Visitors were treated to talks by the two directors of the Center, where the doctors illustrated everything from how to improve assessment of patient risk for cardiovascular disease to how to robotically insert dynamic mechanical pumps to improve heart and vascular function.  According to Drs. Michael Madami and Shami Mahmud, survival rates from serious heart impairment are rapidly improving as patients are treated by a carefully integrated team approach of multiple medical disciplines.

Six physician-specialists led the visitors on a tour of the Center's facilities, including advanced state operating rooms, cardiovascular catherization labs, and equipment capable of capture real-time imaging of the heart in action.
