Harvard Glee Club Regale Us With Song

The 50 gentlemen of the Harvard Glee Club included San Diego as a stop on their 2014 Winter Tour

On January 19th, about 60 HCSD members and guests gathered at the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Mission Valley to hear the final concert in the 2014 Winter Tour of the Harvard Glee Club.  The beautiful church sanctuary provided an enchanting setting for the concert.  The 50 voices harmonized mellifluously, and the outstanding acoustics of the space were appreciated by the brimming audience (around 750 people, including our alumni, FUMC church members, and members of the public.)

Those in attendance enjoyed a repertoire that drew from medieval and Renaissance pieces, Classical and Romantic compositions, Modern & Contemporary songs and folk tunes.  All Glee Club alumni present were invited to join the young men on stage to sing the Harvardiana – including Harvard football songs and our alma mater, Fair Harvard.

Prior to the concert, the Harvard Club hosted a reception for our members and guests to socialize.  We enjoyed a brief talk by Glee Club Director, Dr. Andrew Clark.  He informed us of the latest happenings in Cambridge vis-à-vis choral music and the rising role of the arts at Harvard.

It was a lovely evening of inspiring song and delightful music.

THANK YOU TO OUR HOSTS

The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the generous alumni who opened their homes to host the Glee Club men on their final evening in San Diego.  It was no small feat to organize a tour with 50+ men, and it would not be possible to bring this outstanding performance to our corner of the country without your kindness and generosity.

We extend a special thanks to Board Secretary, Loreen Collins, for her tireless efforts to coordinate the housing for the Glee men.
