Harvard Club of San Diego Volunteers at the Special Olympics

Alumni help award ribbons to Special athletes on May 11th

On May 11th, a group of enthusiastic Harvard alumni gathered at La Jolla High School to be part of the awards ceremonies for the Special Olympics San Diego County Spring Games.  With a crowd of almost 1,100 individuals including 450 athletes, 250 volunteers, and their families, athletes competed in bocce, basketball, and aquatics.

Placing ribbons on athletes and announcing the standings, it was apparent that Harvard’s volunteers were enjoying the moment just as much as the competitors.  Over 100 San Diego athletes qualified for the Special Olympics Chapter Games in Long Beach on June 8th and 9th.  The chapter competition is where athletes will be able to qualify for World Games; which will be held in LA in 2015.

A special thank you to all who cheered on the participants from the sidelines and assisted in many ways to make this a memorable day for the athletes who look forward to this competition, preparing for it months in advance.
