On May 13th, we meet to discuss President Drew Faust's book This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War

For the May Book Club meeting, we are going back to our academic roots.

Joanna Hirst will facilitate the discussion on Monday, May 13th: This Republic of Suffering:  Death and the American Civil War by Harvard University President, Drew Gilpin Faust. 

Faust describes with both heartbreaking and incisive analysis how Americans’ thoughts of death were forever changed by the impact of 600,000 fatalities from the carnage, not just on the battlefield, but from malnutrition, exposure, and sepsis. 

We will return to our usual location at the community clubhouse in Andalucia (Carmel Valley, 3702 Mykonos Lane, San Diego, CA 92130.) The meeting gathers at 7pm.
