Thirsty Third Thursdays Launched in January to Great Success!

Young Alumni Meet and Greet on their terms

From business advice, career goals to community events and new San Diego restaurants, the most recent additions to the San Diego club gathered for, "Thirsty Third Thursdays," the inaugural monthly happy hour for young alums to get together, unwind from the busy week, and (re)connect.

Beginning with the January 17th event, on every third Thursday night of the month thereafter, the Club will continue the rotating happy hour, meeting at a different restaurant/bar for drinks and appetizers. "We'll be on the lookout for cool/new/well-reviewed venues," said Jennifer Ding '09-'10, who is helping to organize these monthly gatherings along with Emily Balmert '09 and Jeffrey Kwong '09. The three first came together with Grace Samodal, the club's president, in the end of 2012 to discuss ways for young alums to become more visibly active and to contribute more to community building efforts. Grace came up with the name, drawing from a similar event series she attended as a graduate student at Oxford.

Looking forward to the future, "our goal is to offer additional young alumni-oriented activities such as the Welcome to Your City and Global Networking Nights," said Jeffrey Kwong. Both are annual events currently offered through the global Harvard Alumni Association network. And Emily Balmert added, "event suggestions are welcome and we hope to put together gatherings that young alumni want to attend."
