Harvard's Global Day of Service welcomes the Harvard College Class of 2030 to a vibrant culture that promotes civic engagement across the greater Harvard community! San Diego Harvard alumni will be partnering virtually with students from the Class of 2030 along with students from Just in Time for Foster Youth on Friday, August 28th at 1:00 PM. Just in Time for Foster Youth (JIT) provides a community to youth aged 18-27 who have transitioned out of foster care. They receive coaching as part of the services that allow individuals to become partners in their success, embracing their past experience as part of a powerful, resilient community. JIT's goal is to replace the traditional Systems mindset with a Youth-Centric Community framework that enhances relationships, provides individualized support, empowers participants with their own transformation, and encourages a collaborative coaching model with communication to achieve lasting impact. JIT has both a college and master's degree bound program.
Global Day of Service Project Topic: Leveraging Your Life Experience to Get to a Goal
This project will allow Harvard first year students and alumni to virtually participate as volunteers during Harvard's Global Day of Service. Volunteers will be supporting Just in Time for Foster Youth participants who are in a program that has goal setting as one of their upcoming sessions. This project will add to the learnings.
We'll start by focusing on how students’ life experiences have shaped what they value and have influenced who they are today through a values-sorting activity.
Then we'll build upon those reflections by exploring how these values connect to one's future - whether it's goals for the upcoming school year or a five-year vision, creating a virtual vision board.
Harvard alumni are encouraged to ask thoughtful, open-ended questions during this interactive project to foster engagement between Harvard's first year students and the Just in Time for Foster Youth participants.
