And what roles will institutions and policymakers play in guiding effective and ethical approaches to AI in education?How can we as educators, parents, future employers and community members understand, respond to and prepare for the changing landscape of education?Please join us on December 3 for an engaging panel presentation and discussion with three recognized national experts on AI, ethics and education: Amy Eguchi, David Danks and Tricia Bertram Gallant as they explore and provide insight on these important questions.This event is open to Ivy+ guests.Our PanelistsDr. Amy EguchiDr. Amy Eguchi is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Education Studies at UC San Diego. She possesses a wealth of experience as a teacher and leader in technologically enhanced education to promote students’ STEM+C learning, with particular focus on educational robotics, computer science (CS) education and AI in K12. Her professional background and experience focuses on providing better STEM+C learning opportunities for all students including underprivileged and female students. Her research and projects focus on enhancing student learning with a transdisciplinary approach using various technologies including educational robotics and digital fabrication tools.Dr. Eguchi has held many leadership positions with RoboCupJunior, an international organization promoting robotics, CS and AI among young generations since 2000. She serves as the Chairperson of World Robot Summit – World Robot Challenge Junior Category which aims to provide unique opportunities for students from around the world to imagine robots coexisting in their everyday life, create and realize their dream collaboration with robots in their everyday setting, either at home or school. She is also an advisory group member of the AI in K-12 initiative. Dr. Eguchi holds an Ed.M. in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Ph.D. in Education from the University of Cambridge.Dr. David DanksDavid Danks is Professor of Data Science, Philosophy, & Policy, and affiliate faculty in Computer Science & Engineering at UC San Diego. Dr. Danks has examined the ethical, psychological, and policy issues around AI and robotics in transportation, healthcare, privacy, and security. He has also done significant research in computational cognitive science, and developed multiple novel causal discovery algorithms for complex types of observational and experimental data. Dr. Danks is the recipient of a James S. McDonnell Foundation Scholar Award, as well as an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship.Dr. Danks has served on advisory boards for a number of organizations including the National AI Advisory Committee, Partnership to Advance Responsible Technology, and Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence. He is widely published, including books, scholarly papers that examine ethics, society and AI and other topics, and popular communications aimed at a general audience. He received an A.B. in Philosophy from Princeton University, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from University of California, San Diego.Dr. Tricia Bertram GallantDr. Tricia Bertram Gallant is the director of the Academic Integrity Office and the Triton Testing Center at UC San Diego. Dr. Bertram Gallant is an internationally known expert on integrity and ethics in education. She has consulted with or presented at high schools, colleges, universities and professional associations throughout the U.S. and around the world, including in Australia, Canada, Chile, Egypt, England, Jamaica, Mexico, Montenegro, Singapore, and Ukraine. She is a prolific writer of journal articles, book chapters, and books. Her latest book is "The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI" (University of Oklahoma Press, 2025) and she has a forthcoming element with Cambridge University Press on Generative AI and Academic Integrity (likely 2026).Dr. Bertram Gallant is a long-time leader with the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI), of which UC San Diego is an institutional member, including serving as their Advisory Council Chair (2008-2010), Transition Co-Chair (2015-2017) and member Board of Directors (2017-2020). In 2018, she was the first recipient and namesake of the Award for Service presented by ICAI. Dr. Bertram Gallant was Co-Chair of UC San Diego's Senate-Administrative Workgroup on GenAI in Education (AY23-24) and is Chair of the UC Assessment Center Consortium Task Force (AY25-26).Harvard Club of San Diego Co-President, Julia Cai, and Secretary, Dan Wolf will moderate the panel discussion. There will be a Q&A with the panelists after the presentation.
