Harvard 2025 Global Day of Service

August 29, 2025

Harvard's Global Day of Service welcomes the Harvard College Class of 2029 to a vibrant culture that promotes civic engagement across the greater Harvard community!  Please join the HCSD virtually on Friday, August 29th at 1:00 PM PT if you would like to volunteer!  All class years (including alums and grad students) are welcome to sign up as volunteers.   Register Here!

HCSD will be partnering with Just in Time for Foster Youth (JIT) for its virtual Global Day of Service project.  JIT provides a community to youth aged 18-27 who have transitioned out of foster care. They receive coaching as part of the services that allow individuals to become partners in their success, embracing their past experience as part of a powerful, resilient community. JIT's goal is to replace the traditional Systems mindset with a Youth-Centric Community framework that enhances relationships, provides individualized support, empowers participants with their own transformation, and encourages a collaborative coaching model with communication to achieve lasting impact. JIT has both a college and master's degree bound program.

During the Global Day of Service, each volunteer will be placed in one of 3 Zoom breakout rooms. JIT youth will transition across all 3 of the breakout rooms.  The breakout rooms are described below:

  • Navigating Imposter Syndrome & Self-Advocacy

    • Guide participants through recognizing and overcoming self-limiting beliefs in academic and/or professional environments. Participants will learn ways to advocate for themselves, setting boundaries, and leveraging their personal strengths.

  • Networking and Social Capital from Scratch

    • This will focus on creating meaningful professional and academic relationships. Show participants to approach networking as relationship building rather than marketing themselves. Participants will learn strategies to initiate conversations, following up authentically, and leveraging their lived experience to connect with others.

  • Making Hidden Systems Visible

    • Have youth discuss and practice interpreting real world scenarios and identify the unspoken expectations. For example, workplace etiquette, communication norms, and how to ask for help. Participants will learn strategies to tackle specific scenarios such as joining a group mid-conversation at a networking event; asking for feedback after not receiving any from a supervisor after completing an assignment; reading the room and avoiding communicating something inappropriate during a team meeting or group project.
