June 12, 2025 - Accelerating India's Development with Prof. Karthik Muralidharan, Leading Economist
We’re thrilled to feature innovative Prof. Karthik Muralidharan, UC San Diego, alum of Harvard and Cambridge, whose work has profoundly shaped how India—and the world—thinks about education, governance, and public spending.
Fresh from TED2024, and winner of the 2024 Crossword Book Award in the Business and Management category for his new book, Accelerating India's Development: A State-Led Roadmap for Effective Governance, Prof. Muralidharan will explore how targeted, evidence-based spending—not just bigger budgets—can dramatically improve public services for millions. Drawing on two decades of hands-on research across Indian states, his talk is a must-hear for anyone interested in data, development, or public innovation. For more on Prof. Muralidharan, see Walking the Talk Taking on inequity at the crossroads of ‘rigor, relevance and impact’ and The Economist review of his new book.
Fellow Economist Tabarrok asks, “Is any economist doing more important work with greater potential for real improvement in the lives of millions than Karthik Muralidharan?” Come find out for yourself.
