Do Black Lives Matter?: The Politics of Race in the Age of Obama     

The Harvard Club of San Diego is delighted to invite you to our annual dinner at the beautiful grounds of the exclusive La Jolla Country Club. This will be an elegant evening featuring a champagne reception, followed by dinner overlooking La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean. We are excited to bring you a presentation by Dr. Timothy McCarthy, who will speak about the politics of race in America. Professor McCarthy is Lecturer on History and Literature, Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy, and Director of the Sexuality, Gender, and Human Rights Program at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Featured Guest Dr. Timothy Patrick McCarthy is an award-winning scholar, teacher, and activist. He holds a joint faculty appointment in Harvard’s undergraduate honors program in History and Literature and at the Harvard Kennedy School, where he is the founding director of the Sexuality, Gender, and Human Rights Program at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy. He is also the Stanley Paterson Professor of American History in the Boston Clemente Course in the Humanities in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Dr. McCarthy received his A.B. with honors from Harvard College, and his M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D. from Columbia University.

Cost: HCSD Member - $85 / HCSD Member plus one guest - $165 / Non-Member - $95   

Spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  Ticket sales will close on March 8, 2016, unless sold out earlier.

Cancellation Policy:  We are sorry, but we cannot offer refunds for this event.  

Country Club Dress Code: Business attire is required (Denim, flip-flops, sneakers, etc are not permitted.)

No cell phone use is permitted on the Country Club premises.

Dinner Entree Options (you will be asked to choose one per guest after you purchase your ticket).

Please note that since this dinner is served banquet style, substitutions will not be possible.  Also, we will pre-order your entree, so changes are not possible at the event. 

1.  Steak: Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Yukon Gold Potato Puree, Tagliatelle Summer Squash, Cabernet Demi Glace.

2. Chicken: (Gluten free option) Chicken Breast with Yukon Gold Potato Puree, Tagliatelle Summer Squash, Cabernet Demi Glace.

3.  Vegetarian:  Grilled Vegetable Napoleon with Eggplant, Squash, Roasted Red Peppers, Portabella Mushrooms, Vine Ripe Tomatoes and Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese.
