HCSD Day Trip to The Getty Center (Los Angeles)

Join Harvard Club friends and guests for a day trip to The Getty Center in Los Angeles

The Getty Center is a world famous companion to The Getty Villa, and is considered a masterpiece of contemporary architecture, sculpture, and landscape design, housing art and sculpture from the eighteenth through twentieth centuries. 

HCSD club member Marty Poirier FASLA, will lead the tour of the Central Garden and share his insight on the making of this very special place.  His firm, SPURLOCK POIRIER Landscape Architects of San Diego served as the landscape architect in collaboration with the artist Robert Irwin in the creation of the Garden.  Marty is also the co-chairman of the Ambassadorship Committee of the Harvard Graduate School of Design Alumni Council.

Travel to Los Angeles.  Departure via private bus will be from a meeting location in Solana Beach, at 9:15 a.m.  Snacks will be served en route.  Arrival at The Getty will be at approximately 11:45 a.m.  Departure instructions will be sent to paid-up participants 10 days prior to the trip.

Tour.  Upon arrival at The Getty Center, the group will gather with Marty for a 90 minute tour of the main plaza and Central Garden.

  • Admission to the Getty Center is free.
  • Lunch will be on your own at the café or restaurant. 
  • After lunch, participants are free to participate in docent led tours of the museum collection, or individual touring.

Bus ride back to Solana Beach, 5 – 8 p.m.  Light dinner via Getty-provided boxed meal.  On the sign-up sheet, please select your preferred picnic option for the return ride.

Cost.  HCSD Member:  $60  |  Non-member:  $70

Teens are welcome to join this outing.
