Harvard 2022 Global Day of Service

As part of Harvard's 2022 Global Day of Service, we'll be joining all class years and alumni in one of many civic engagement projects across the greater Harvard community. This remote volunteer opportunity will be held during first-year orientation on August 29th.

Focus area: social justice, human rights

Project Description: Ella Baker Center (EBC) for Human Rights is named for the brilliant, Black hero of the civil rights movement. Following in her footsteps, they organize with Black, Brown, and low-income individuals to shift resources away from prisons and punishment to focus on opportunities that make communities safe, healthy, and strong.  During the Global Day of Service, volunteers will work with staff to respond to individuals in prisons with legal resources and to provide updates on policy efforts to improve conditions and paths to release.  Volunteers will also learn about EBC's Prison Mail Program.  EBC believes that people closest to the problem are closest to the solution and responding to messages from community members impacted most by mass incarceration will give volunteers a chance to connect and learn from one another in a meaningful way.
