Volunteer with GRID Alternatives

Bring solar technology to low income homeowners, reducing our community's carbon emissions and providing cost savings to those sturggling to make ends meet.

We're excited to offer the alumni community a unique volunteer opportunity through GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit organization that provides solar technology to areas in our community that would otherwise not have access to it, thereby reducing carbon emissions, while also providing cost savings for low income homeowners who are struggling to make ends meet.  Their success since 2004 is impressive, having installed renewable power for more than 4,000 families which will ultimately translate into greater than $110 million in energy cost savings in addition to keeping 340,000 tons of greenhouse gasses from entering our environment. For a single family this could equate to a lifetime savings of both $25,000 and 85 tons of carbon emissions which equates to the planting of 2000 trees.

Are you ready to be part of this effort?

We'll be volunteering as a Harvard alumni group on Saturday, April 5th.  Installations will start at 8:30am and we'll work as a team until 4:30pm with a break for lunch.  If you'd like to have family members join in this community service event, to work on the ground, volunteers should be 16 years of age or older and at least 18 years of age to work on the roof.  To be properly prepared for the installation, an orientation will take place on Monday, March 31st at 6:30pm that will be under 2 hours in duration with a focus on safety.  Please dress in casual attire with closed-toes shoes and no jewelry.  No experience is necessary and tools will be provided.  We'll be led by an experienced Team Leader and each installation will be managed by GRID Alternatives' construction staff.  Moderate lifting (20 lbs) may be involved.  We'll create a wait list once we reach the limit of 12 volunteers.
