Ivy Plus Summer Special Symphony Concert!

Welcome to the Ivy Plus and Elizabeth and Newell Eddy Donor Appreciation Concert! We are thrilled that you would consider attending this special summer event in our outdoor venue in the Marina. Several of our most distinguished Symphony musicians and staff are proud Ivy alumns and look forward to meeting you all. The concert will take place outdoors on Thursday, August 29th at 7:30pm at Embarcadero Marina Park South at our Summer Pops Site.  The program will feature highlights from the upcoming 2013-2014 Jacobs masterworks season.  Conducted by the Symphony’s Associate Conductor Ken-David Masur, the program will include selections from some of our most exciting classical series concerts.  Selections will include highlights of our tour program, to include: Bernstein’s Candide Overture, a sampling of Wagner’s powerful storytelling highlighting our “Ring Without Words” Program, music for the holiday season, and works by Beethoven, Dvorak, and more!
 
Conductor and Grammy nominated producer Ken-David Masur (CC'01) has been critically hailed as “fearless, bold” and a "life-force"[U-T San Diego] and “a brilliant and commanding conductor with unmistakable charisma”[Leipzig Volkszeitung]. His recent engagements include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Russian National Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Toulouse, Hiroshima Symphony, Japan Philharmonic and Memphis Symphony Orchestras. He currently serves as Principal Guest Conductor of the Munich Symphony as well as Associate Conductor of the San Diego Symphony. This summer he makes returns to Tanglewood and the Colmar Festival in France where he will conduct the Russian National Philharmonic at their summer home.
 
Ken-David Masur received his B.A. from Columbia University in New York City.  There he served from 1999-2002 as the first Music Director of the Bach Society Orchestra and Chorus, which toured Germany and released a critically acclaimed recording of symphonies and cantatas by W.F.Bach, C.P.E.Bach and J.S.Bach.  
Together with his wife, pianist Melinda Lee Masur (Harvard '00), he serves as Artistic Director of the internationally acclaimed Chelsea Music Festival in New York City (www.chelseamusicfestival.org), an annual summer music festival  lauded as "a gem of a series" by The New York Times.
