Sponsor the Summer Community Service Fellowship
The Summer Community Service Fellowship
Committee Chair: Loreen Collins; AB '82
What is the Summer Community Service Fellowship?
The Harvard Club of San Diego (HCSD) has established a Summer Community Service Fellowship (SCSF) in conjunction with Harvard’s Center for Public Interest Careers (CPIC). Harvard truly goes local with this program. Through SCSF, we have the opportunity to sponsor undergraduate students in exploring summer internships that support the San Diego community and non-profit organizations. In the past, donations made to the SCSF through the Harvard Club of San Diego have helped fund internships at the Chula Vista Girls and Boys Club and Stepping Stone of San Diego.
How does it work?
The program is designed for current Harvard undergraduate students looking to experience working for a not-for-profit organization for the summer. Current Harvard students can apply for the SCSF through an application submitted to CPIC. The SCSF will provide summer income to the Harvard student while interning at a San Diego not-for-profit for the summer.
The Harvard Club of San Diego will recommend several local not-for-profits to the student intern or the intern can choose an organization of their own. The intern is expected to devote approximately 10-12 weeks of full-time involvement to the not-for-profit organization. At the end of the project, the student will submit a final report to the Harvard Club of San Diego.
How can you get involved?
1) Recommend a not-for-profit company for this program. We are looking for companies that will provide a supportive environment for our intern(s) where they can learn about the not-for-profit sector.
2) Contribute! We are looking to raise approximately $4,000 to sponsor each SCSF. To give a current Harvard student the experience of working in the not-for-profit community, you can contribute by clicking HERE.
(The item will appear as $1.00 in your CART. Once you CHECKOUT, you will be able to enter any dollar amount that you wish to contribute.)
